The Grunig Lecture is an annual event hosted by the University of Maryland Department of Communication. Each year, the Grunig Lecture hosts multiple acclaimed guests to speak on current academic research in the field of public relations. The theme of this year's lecture is “Global Public Relations Theories: Applications of the Maryland Research Tradition.”

Presenters
Yi-Ru Regina Chen
Yi-Ru Regina Chen is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research interests include strategic communication, social media engagement and gamification, government affairs, and corporate social responsibility and creating shared values. Her work has been published in numerous leading communication, new media and behavioral change journals, including the Journal of Public Relations Research and Public Relations Review. Professor Chen was the ICA Public Relation Division’s Robert Heath Award recipient and also the research fellow of the Behavioral Insights Research Center of the Institute for Public Relations.
Chun-Ju Flora Hung-Baesecke
Chun-Ju Flora Hung-Baesecke is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Communication at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. She is also the current chairperson of the ICA Public Relations Division and the Secretary General of International Affairs for Public Relations Society of China. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research interests include organization-public relationships, CSR, social media, employee communication, and stakeholder management. Professor Hung-Baesecke has won several faculty top papers at international conferences and has been published in different refereed journals.
Minjung Sung
Minjung Sung is a Professor of Public Relations at Chung-Ang University and teaches corporate public relations, public relations management and crisis communication. She currently serves as president of the Korean Academic Society for Public Relations. Professor Sung earned her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research interests include strategic management of public relations, corporate communication strategy and crisis/issues management. Professor Sung previously served as an assistant professor at Baruch College, City University of New York.
Yi-Hui Christine Huang
Yi-Hui Christine Huang is the Chair Professor of Communication and Media at the City University of Hong Kong. She earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park. Professor Huang's research interests include public relations and strategic communication in the digital era, crisis and risk communication, conflict resolution and negotiation, and cross-cultural communication. Professor Huang has received multiple international research awards and recognition for originality, quality and productivity, including the Best Article Award in Public Relations Scholarship awarded by the National Communication Association.
Yunna Rhee
Yunna Rhee is the current Dean of International Affairs at Hankuk U of Foreign Studies and a Professor in the Division of Media Communication. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park. Some of Professor Rhee’s research interests include strategic public relations management, international/global public relations, issues management, intercultural communication, and employee communications. She has published over 50 articles, books, and book chapters. Some of her publications include The Korea Observer and Corporate Communications: An International Journal.

Sun Young Lee
Sun Young Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland. She earned her Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her research interests include visual strategies in corporate social responsibility (CSR) messages, strategies to engage the public with CSR activities and the effects of CSR practices in a crisis context. Lee’s research has appeared in the Journal of Business Ethics, Communication Research, Public Relations Review and elsewhere. Her current projects focus on the role of emotions and of public empowerment in the co-creation of social value through CSR activities.
Erich Sommerfeldt
Erich Sommerfeldt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Communication from the University of Oklahoma. His research interests include activism, civil society and development communication, public diplomacy, social capital, and social network analysis. He is a two-time winner of the Best Article of the Year Award from the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association. Dr. Sommerfeldt has participated in applied civil society research projects in developing nations around the world, including Haiti, Jordan, Ukraine, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
